The softball team at James Madison University will not play any more games this season. This was an extremely difficult decision and one that was not made lightly, according to a statement from JMU head coach LaPorte. We are grateful for the support of our fans all season and for the love from the softball community during the past week. We will use this time to honor Lauren and continue healing. JMU has four games left on its schedule, one against Virginia on Tuesday and three against Elon this weekend. The school canceled the games after learning of Bernett's death. LaPorte said that they would make sure that they were honored for their dedication and commitment to James Madison University. Bernett died by suicide last week, a week after she won the Player of the Week award. She was 20 years old. If you or someone you know is thinking of suicide, please call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline.
