Matt Corral was drafted in the third round by the Carolinas, but they are still expected to add a veteran quarterback to their roster.
According to Albert Breer, the Carolinas plan to "kick around" the idea of adding Jimmy Garoppolo, Baker Mayfield, or Nick Foles to compete with the other quarterbacks.
Scott Fitterer told reporters that the team is happy with the group they have.
He said that they came into this weekend with the intention of getting a quarterback. We are going to go with this group.
The ultimate decision on whether or not to add a veteran may come down to price point. The only other option for the three currently available on the free-agent market was released by the Chicago Bears. He will be the cheapest of the three, since Garoppolo and Mayfield will both get starter-level money in 2022.
It is possible that the 49ers or the Browns will release their high-priced backups, though it is not likely to happen in San Francisco. The 49ers coaching staff and Garoppolo's teammates like him. It is possible that the team keeps him around as their highest-paid backup.
It seems like he would like to leave Cleveland. He requested a trade and went public about it. It would be difficult for him to be on the roster going into training camp, given the sexual assault allegations against Deshaun Watson.
If the Browns agree to eat a significant chunk of his salary, the Carolinas may be more willing to trade for him.
