The highest-ranking American diplomat to the country was in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv on Monday for a press conference.

Kvien said that the embassy hopes to return to its original location in Kyiv by the end of the month if it is safe to do so.

The U.S. first shut down its embassy in Kyiv on February 14 and then moved its operations to Lviv and then to Poland on February 21.

The State Department said last Monday that it would reopen its embassy in Ukraine. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have all met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
