Warriors overcome Draymond ejection, come up clutch in Game 1 win vs. Grizzlies (3:04)

The Warriors lost Draymond Green in the second quarter to an ejection but still won Game 1 in Memphis. There is a time and a place for it.

There is a page on the Notes app dedicated to one of the most important players on the Golden State Warriors roster.

Jordan Poole is a person.

It has been there since 2019. You will see guiding principles for the 22-year-old's development, as well as plans on how the two of them want to work together.

During his first season in the league, he asked how to get on the floor.

How do I stay on the floor?

This season? How do I affect the playoffs?

All of the questions have been answered by Poole.

It wasn't easy.

As a freshman, Poole averaged 8.8 points in 22.4 minutes on 33.3% shooting from the field and 27.9% from beyond the 3-point line. He was a first-round pick and a guard who was supposed to improve the Warriors offense. He heard about it.

He takes bad shots or he can't pass, so I wasn't worried about that. It would be a matter of how I could incorporate my game into the team. I knew that it would take some time.

After completing a season in which he improved his statistical output in nearly every category -- and became part of the Warriors new death lineup -- those external conversations have been silenced. Through the first six games of the playoffs, Poole is averaging 22.7 points on 56.1% shooting and playing a career-high 33 minutes per game.

The win over Memphis was his best yet. He played a team-high 38 minutes off the bench and was the team's leading scorer, rebounder and assist man.

I have always made people eat their words. I shut up and let my game do the talking. It feels better. It feels good.

The NBA announced health and safety protocols that allowed players to get back into the gym, but only with one other person. The phone was picked up by the man.

I knew I would improve if I could get in there every single day for a long time.

The two worked out together. They had to wear masks the entire time and no one else was allowed to be in there with them.

They worked on the defense. They drilled his shooting almost every day, focusing on getting a quicker release, speeding up his footwork and being able to make catch-and-shoot jumpers. They emphasized his handles, finishing at the rim and being able to do it with both hands.

It will be frustrating, but you need to be able to sharpen those tools.

During that summer, he experienced exactly what his coach had warned him would happen. He struggled for weeks to find his shot after losing it. With just the two of them, every clank off the rim, every squeak of his practice-only shoes, echoed in those lonely, cavernous gyms across the San Francisco Bay. He had had enough after missing eight straight shots.

He kicked the balls into the stands and let the F-bomb fly.

It was the only way that I could get my anger out of my system. I could not do anything else but kick the ball.

The NBA playoffs run through June, when the league will crown a champion for its 75th season.

I felt like I had worked hard. I didn't miss eight in a row because I worked hard. It really got under my skin, especially in workouts. No one is guarding me. Why am I not located?

He kept working.

It was like that for nine months, and it was crazy. That is an extra seven months.

After a two week break, they returned to team training camp.

The work paid off as he bumped his season numbers to 12 points on 43.2% field goal shooting, including 35.1% from 3.

The Warriors sent him to the G League bubble so he could find more playing time.

March 4, 2021. The Warriors traded Brad Wanamaker at the deadline. After Kelly Oubre Jr. suffered a wrist injury, the opportunity was given to Poole.

In the final 36 games of the season, he averaged 14.7% points on 43.3% shooting from the field, 35.4% from deep, and had one 38 point game.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr said that they thought about bringing him off the bench, but decided against it because he needed as many minutes as possible. He had a great camp, the very first exhibition game he lit it up, and it was obvious that we had to get this guy on the court.

Kerr told Poole that he would start the season at the starting shooting guard spot.

If the opportunity came, I couldn't have done anything else to put me in a better position.

Stephen Curry had a left foot injury and felt like he was watching himself from the bench.

During the third quarter of the game against the Magic, Poole brought the ball up the floor. Draymond Green was standing outside the 3-point line when he passed it back to him. As soon as he got rid of the ball, Poole moved behind Green and knocked down the 3-pointer.

He said he has studied Curry closely. Same with Thompson. Chris Paul and Damian Lillard are two NBA players who were watched film by DeMarco. When it comes to learning from Curry, the main focus was on how he moves off the ball.

Curry is seeing double.

Curry said that it was the essence of it in terms of movement without the ball. He realized how easy it would be if he built that chemistry.

Because of injuries to Curry and Thompson, Green has been the longest-serving Warriors player. When did the NBA Defensive Player of the Year realize that Jordan Poole could be them?

In the fourth quarter of the March 10 game against the Denver Nuggets, the Warriors scored 11 of their 21 points on two wide-open 3-pointers.

Someone needs to step up in that moment and get us over the finish line, according to Green. The role was taken on by Jordan. It allowed everyone else to have confidence in him. I don't have to look for her. I don't need to look for Klay. Let's go to Jordan. That is a very powerful tool to have.

Green continued.

The day after the Warriors had suffered a humiliating loss to the Magic, they played the Miami Heat. Curry was out with a foot injury. Green and Thompson were resting.

Green said that he told him that the point of the game was to get whatever you want.

He finished with 30 points on 10-of-18 shooting. He had nine assists.

For them to walk me through this process and give me confidence is awesome. They don't have to worry about covering for Jordan because they can go out there. We will play with you if you just play your game.

The first playoffs have served as an introduction to the basketball world. He became the 16th player in NBA history to score at least 25 points in each of his first three career playoff games, and his 86 total points are second most through a player's first three postseason contests.

His 31 points on Sunday set a new career best, and he added five 3s.

We know we have an opportunity. It is special, but you don't want to mess that up.

As for all those questions? He is now asking for more.

Green said that they used to be, "How do the playoffs feel?"

What will I do when this stage happens? How should I fight that? It is a completely different space if they do this. I understand what they are trying to do. Help me figure out what to do.

The answers are coming to light for the Warriors.
