Beijing carried out another round of mass testing in the city on Monday as officials detected 58 new Covid-19 cases outside neighborhoods that are under a complete lock down.
A total of 7,333 new Covid-19 cases were reported in China on Monday, while Beijing reported 41 new infections.
There were 32 new deaths from Covid-19 on Monday, down from 38 the day before.
While the number of new cases in the city have been decreasing, Monday's figures are a blow as all new cases from the previous two days had been reported in areas that are completely sealed off.
Millions of people in the Chinese financial hub have been under a strict curfew, but people in some neighborhoods have been allowed to leave their homes.
Beijing authorities have failed to completely stomp out the cases, with many being reported every day.
Several schools in the city have switched to remote learning and officials have shut down dining at restaurants in order to avoid a similar situation.
454. The total number of deaths that the city of Shanghai has reported since the beginning of the current outbreak in March. Since the start of the Pandemic, China has reported 9% of all deaths as occurring in the city. Some are still concerned that the actual toll may be higher than what has been reported.
The city's plan to achieve what it calls "societal zero Covid", where new cases are only detected among people who are already under quark, has been dealt a blow by the detection of new cases outside sealed off neighborhoods. In spite of the fact that millions of people in the city have been locked down for more than a month, authorities in the city have not been able to fully stamp out the spread of the virus. The food shortages and stringent Quarantine rules have made the plight of the locked down mass worse. Beijing has continued to carry out multiple rounds of mass testing on its population in a desperate attempt to avoid the fate of Shanghai. A city official has warned that the Beijing outbreak is at a crucial juncture as while most new cases have been detected among people under the care of a doctor, some of the infections have also been found in the larger community.
Beijing focuses on mass testing while the setback for the COVID battle is still going on.
There are restrictions on May 1 holiday travel in China.
