The company confirmed in a press release that it had just made a blockbuster deal to acquire Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montr, and Square Enix for $300 million. The deal includes a catalog of intellectual property, including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief, Legacy of Kain, and more than 50 back-catalogue games. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval.

Around 1,100 employees work in those studios across eight global locations. Embracer will have more than 12,000 employees, 10,000 game developers and more than 120 internal studios when the deal is finalized. It has more than 230 games in development, with 30 of those beingAAA titles.

The studio said during the acquisition conference call that they would revive the game and use new Unreal Engine 5 technology.

Crystal Dynamics announced last month that it was working on a new Tomb Raider game that would push the envelope of fidelity, based on Unreal Engine 5. According to the Embracer press release, the creator of Thief 4, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and more is working on a number of projects, including new releases from beloved franchises and original intellectual property.

The biggest games publisher you have never heard of is founded by a Swedishentrepreneur. It made a number of acquisitions over the last couple of years, most notably buying Saber Interactive for $525 million.
