In a tweet posted just before 7:00 a.m., the president warned that Russian officials should “get ready,” because “they will be coming, nice and new and ‘smart!'”
“You shouldn’t be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!” the president added, admonishing Russian leaders.
Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria. Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and “smart!” You shouldn’t be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!

The tweet comes after a statement from Russia’s ambassador to Lebanon Alexander Zasypkin, who told a Hezbollah-controlled TV station that Russian air defenses would not only strike down any incoming missiles, but added that Russian forces would retaliate against the source of any attacks.
“If there is a US missile attack, we – in line with both Putin and Russia’s chief of staff’s remarks – will shoot down US rockets and even the sources that launched the missiles,” he said, according to Al Jazeera.
Syrian government forces have been on high alert since a missile attack Monday morning was blamed by Russia and Syria on Israeli forces. The attack was seen as immediate retribution for a suspected chemical weapons attack in a rebel-held Syrian city, for which both Russia and the Syrian government have denied responsibility.
Trump, meanwhile, has laid blame for the attacks squarely at the feet of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Syrian President Bashar al Assad.
“It was an atrocious attack. It was horrible,” Trump told reporters at the White House. “This is about humanity and it can’t be allowed to happen.”
“Area of atrocity is in lockdown and encircled by Syrian Army, making it completely inaccessible to outside world. President Putin, Russia and Iran are responsible for backing Animal Assad,” he added on Twitter.
