If you find yourself reheating rice for your meals, you may want to take certain precautions to prevent food poisoning according to the National Health Service (NHS) of the United Kingdoms.
According to the NHS, it is not the reheating that causes food poisoning, but how the rice has been stored before it is reheated
Uncooked rice contains spores that can cause food poisoning if left at room temperature, the spores can grow into bacteria. When digested, the bacteria can multiply and produce toxins that can cause vomiting or diarrhea about one to five hours afterwards.
The NHS provided some tips on how to serve rice safely:
* Ideally, serve rice as soon as it has been cooked.
* If that isn’t possible, cool the rice as quickly as possible (ideally within 1 hour).
* Keep rice in the fridge for no more than 1 day until reheating.
* When you reheat any rice, always check the dish is steaming hot all the way through.
* Do not reheat rice more than once.
