‘All About Getting at Trump Campaign’: Fitton Argues FBI Misled FISA Court on Carter Page Warrant

Tom Fitton said Monday the Department of Justice and FBI misled a FISA court to get a surveillance warrant against Carter Page as a way to target then-candidate Donald Trump.

The Justice Department on Saturday released documents used by the government to justify the FISA surveillance warrant against Page, a former Trump campaign aide.

President Trump took to Twitter Monday morning to declare that the heavily-redacted materials — which were released after a Judicial Watch Freedom of Information Act lawsuit — show that the Steele Dossier was a major component of the 2016 surveillance warrant.

So we now find out that it was indeed the unverified and Fake Dirty Dossier, that was paid for by Crooked Hillary Clinton and the DNC, that was knowingly & falsely submitted to FISA and which was responsible for starting the totally conflicted and discredited Mueller Witch Hunt!

On “Fox & Friends,” Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, said the FISA documents were not classified to protect national security secrets, but to cover up misconduct by the Justice Department and FBI.

He argued that the DOJ and FBI purposefully did not tell the FISA court that the dossier was funded by the Hillary Clinton campaign and the DNC.

“This is a Clinton campaign document that was presented to the court as if it weren’t, and then they used reports about the Clinton campaign document and leak operation to further justify asking for a warrant to target the Trump team,” Fitton said.

He said those involved in the FISA application process — including Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein — need to answer serious questions about how and why the warrant was approved.

“This is about Carter Page in theory, but when you look at what’s been released, it was all about getting at the Trump campaign.”

Democrats, however, argue the warrant to surveil Page was justified. In the warrant application, the FBI said it believed Page was “collaborating and conspiring with the Russian government.”

The release of the Carter Page FISA application makes clear, once again, the FBI acted lawfully and appropriately.

This hasn’t stopped the President and Republicans from repeating the same fraudulent taking points in the discredited Nunes memo.

“These documents affirm that our nation faced a profound counterintelligence threat prior to the 2016 election, and the Department of Justice and FBI took appropriate steps to investigate whether any U.S. persons were acting as an agent of a foreign power,” said Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee.

Meantime, Fox News’ Catherine Herridge reported exclusively that Republicans on the committee asked Trump last month to declassify key sections of the warrant application.
