The Microsoft Store that comes built into Windows will soon be able to be downloaded, according to an update from the company. That is correct, you read that. Up to this point, Microsoft's work communications app hasn't been available on its own store, either, it had to be downloaded from the web or installed alongside the rest of Office 365. It was only available on the store for people using Windows 10 in S mode, which restricted where you could install software from.
Teams will be available on the store next month for both Windows 10 and 11. The personal, work, and school accounts will be able to use the 11 version of Windows. Windows 11 has a version of Teams that is meant to be used for chatting with friends and family using a personal account, not as a Slack alternative.
The Microsoft Store was redesign last year. It was also when it was announced that you could install apps from the Amazon app store on Window 11.
Microsoft is working on making it easier to get Teams on Windows for people who need it. I am happy to hear that it is testing an Apple Silicon-native version of Teams, which will hopefully help with the slow launch times for the app on M1 Macs. You have to download the macOS version from the web instead of using the App Store.
