The highly-awaited release of the Nike Air Jordan 1 "Shattered Backboard 3.0" is just around the corner. After consistent rumors and teasers, we received word of an official release date via Nike late last week. The sneaker will be the third Shattered Backboard-themed, men's Air Jordan 1 High release following the home and away colorways from June 2015 and October 2016 respectively.

Model: Air Jordan 1 "Shattered Backboard 3.0"

Key Features: This version of the "Shattered Backboard" Air Jordan 1 will feature a crinkled patent leather upper in black and orange. As with most Air Jordan 1 releases, Nike Air branding is on the tongue tag, while the Jordan Wings logo features on the ankle.

Editor's Notes: The Nike Air Jordan 1 "Shattered Backboard 1.0" saw a limited pre-launch at atmosCon in Tokyo, Japan at the beginning of the month and will now be available at Nike and a number of retailers. While this is the third men's Air Jordan 1 High that takes inspiration from the iconic MJ moment, there was also a satin women's version, which dropped in May 2018, as well as a Air Jordan 1 low that dropped earlier this year.

Why is the sneaker called Shattered Backboard?

The name "Shattered Backboard" comes from a moment after Michael Jordan's rookie season, in the summer of 1985, when he played in an exhibition game in Italy. Jordan, wearing the orange, black, and white of Stefanel Trieste, hit a dunk so hard he shattered the glass backboard. Check out the famous moment below.
