I love gadgets and tech related things. One of the things that I like to check out is the watch. I keep trying new ones to hopefully find the one that finally gets as much as possible right, and I was excited about the new watch until I wasn't. The nerd in me felt like I was missing out, so here I am with the watch again.

I bought the regular watch when it first became available. I returned it because I realized that I had been let down. I felt as though I had gotten so excited about what the watch could do that there was no way it could deliver. I decided to purchase a new watch to give it another try.

The Galaxy Watch 4 was supposed to be the thing that finally made Wear OS wearable a must-have device — it wasn't and isn't.

I was disappointed in the hardware of the watch. The product is in the rotating bezel. The first Wearable device from SAMSUNG to use a touch-sensitive bezel as a navigation option was the GALAXY WATCH Active 2. The implementation on the new watch was just as useless as it was on the Active 2, which was one of the reasons I bought the Classic model a second time.

Even when it put its own OS on its watch, it was making some of the best watches on the market. I wanted to give the Wear OS watch another try because of this. I felt it needed another shot because the hardware and software chops of the company were too good for the watch to fail so hard.

I was struck by the hardware when I held the Watch 4 Classic. It feels substantial and there is no sense of it being hollow. It's so satisfying to feel the clicking as it spins, just like clicking the S Pen in the S22 Ultra. In navigating the software, the joy of using the rotating bezel continued.

Wear OS 3 feels the same as before. I didn't think it would have changed, but everything about theUI is complete. The watch doesn't have some key Wear OS features that other watches have. It seems that there are too many of the devices in the basket.

Some features have been added to the device through software updates. The most glaring omission is the Google Assistant. There have been many updates stating that the Google Assistant is coming. A key feature of the Wear OS that is supposed to make the platform better is still not on the watch, eight months after the launch.

For those who had used a Wear OS watch in the past couple of years and loved the idea of using a Tizen-based device, the Galaxy Watch 4 series is likely to be wonderful. It has been a commercial success, but it has also flopped.

I picked up the Classic variant of theGalaxy Watch 4, which is why I am enjoying my second stint with it. The battery life is still not great, the Wear OS 3 on the watch has quirks that annoy me, and the lack of a Google Assistant still frustrates me. Maybe I am enjoying it this time because I have more realistic expectations, not because of the Wearable. I don't plan on getting rid of the watch this time.

Satisfactory, but not as impactful as I'd hoped

I wanted the new watch to spark a revolution in Wear OS devices, even though I knew it wouldn't happen. The nerd in me made me buy it, even though I should have known better. Maybe my desire to get a watch that really satisfies that itch will have to come from the company that makes it. Maybe it will be from a different brand. It is not getting it done with theGalaxy Watch 4 Classic on my wrist.
