Fans of Oscar-winning visual effects artist Phil Tippett will finally get a chance to see Mad God, his long-in-the-works stop. Shudder and a few theaters will see the film after it's festival release.

It has been over 30 years since we started, but thanks to the team at Tippett Studio we finally made the dream a reality.

The special effects seen in films such as Dragonheart, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, and the Twilight saga were propelled by the work of an animation pioneer named Tippett. The upcoming DC film Black Adam and the upcoming Showtime film The Man Who Fell to Earth are some of the titles that have been worked on by his animation and visual effects team. It has worked on seasons of Disney+ shows like The Book of Boba Fett, The Mandalorian, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

During a lull in his schedule after the release of RoboCop 2, Tippett came up with the idea of Mad God, a story about an assassin who travels through a nightmare landscape. A few scenes had been completed when the idea to work on the movie was put on hold. The props from Mad God were unearthed after twenty years and the team encouraged him to get the whole idea made. The new generation of artists, trained primarily on computers, wanted to learn from Tippett and help him revive his film. A new generation of artists and craftspeople were taught by Tippett and his volunteer crew. While the world was sheltered through a global Pandemic, Tippett finished the final scenes with partial funding from a Kickstarter campaign.

Shudder is known for its dedicated collection of horror and genre gems, so its acquisition of Tippett's labor of love feels like a perfect match. Shudder's Mad God will be released in theaters on June 16.
