We use benchmark utilities to compare computers to each other and figure out which ones are the most powerful. Their purpose is not only that. If you want to see how your own PC stacks up to the competition, you may want to run them.

Cinebench R23 is one of the easiest utilities to use. This program uses your computer's processing power to render a 3D image. It only takes 10 minutes to run.

Here is how to do it.

Here’s what Cinebench looks like in the app store.

How to Download Cinebench

If you use a Mac, you can find Cinebench in the App Store. You can find it in the Microsoft Store if you are on Windows. Users of both platforms can download it from Maxon's website.

If you're running Windows 10 or 11 you need a system with at least 4GB of RAM and a 64-bit processor with support for SSE3 in order to run Cinebench. If you're a Mac user, you need to be running macOS 10.13.16 or higher and have at least 4GB of RAM.

Cinebench R23 is the most recent version and the best one to use.

How to Run Cinebench

Once you have the program downloaded, open it. There are two Start buttons in the top left corner. To test your system's multi-core capabilities, click the one next to the single core. The tests will take around 10 minutes.

If you want to see if your system can keep up its performance over a longer period of time, you can run the tests for as long as 30 minutes. Go to the Advanced Benchmark to set that up. There is a drop-down menu on the left side. Select 30 minutes from that menu. You can start whichever test you want.

If you want to get the most accurate score, you need to make sure there are no other programs or background processes running while Cinebench is going and that your device is plugged in. The settings on your computer should be maxed out.

Here’s what it looks like when you get your score. I had a bunch of stuff open while my MacBook ran this, so this isn’t the most accurate score.

How to See Your Cinebench Score

The score will pop up next to the start button if your device has completed the test. Cinebench will show you how your processor stacks up against other similar chips.

Cinebench is only one test and one data point. It doesn't mean that your computer is a worse one than another. The performance of a computer can be influenced by a number of factors, and one of them is the raw power of the processor.

Cinebench is a free way to check your PC's performance and see if there are any performance issues you need to address.
