Users are starting to see the new dark mode on the internet. The previous dark mode was a gray that soothed the eyes, but now it's a true black that will pop on the displays.

The release of dark mode has been slow, despite the fact that it was announced earlier this month. Some users have lost the new theme after they received it. The new dark theme was available on desktop and mobile earlier this month, after the company said it was testing a new dark mode in February of last year.

There is a new theme on my laptop, but it is still dark gray on my phone. The dark gray background has more contrast than the pitch-black background, which makes the change appear starker.

If you are still in light mode and want to switch, here is how you can do it.

  1. Select the gear icon in the top right corner to open the quick settings.
  2. Select dark mode.

Those who thought the dark gray wasn't dark enough will be happy with the new display. It could be a win for those who want to save some battery life on their devices, though it is not clear how much battery life you could find yourself saving, or if the stark visual difference is even worth the change.
