Miami Hurricanes to hire Clemson's Dan Radakovich as athletic director

The time is 7:50 PM.

A source told ESPN that the University of Miami is going to hire Dan Radakovich as its new athletic director.

A source says that the hire is expected to be made official on Thursday, which is a big step in Miami's commitment to revamping its leadership after hiring Mario Cristobal away from Oregon as the new head coach.

The team played for the national title in football four times, winning two, and the athletic director oversaw a massive expansion of the program's budget.

The Miami deal is expected to make Radakovich one of the highest-paid athletic directors in the nation.

Two days after the Hurricanes' football team lost to Florida State, Miami let go of Blake James.

The Hurricanes are bringing another alum back to Coral Gables. He received a master's degree in business administration from Miami in 1982.

Miami is the third school in the conference to have an athletic director. He was at Georgia Tech from 2006 to 2012

"Everyone that I've spoken to that knows Dan raves about him,'' Miami men's basketball coach Jim Larranaga said earlier this month as it was becoming clear that Radakovich was the Hurricanes' top target for the job.

He's a great businessman. He has tremendous experience.

His career in sports administration began in 1983 at Miami, and he was hired by the Hurricanes.

Sam Jankovich, the legendary athletic director of the University of Miami, hired 25-year-old Radakovich as the Hurricanes' director of athletic financial affairs. The football team won its first national championship about 2 1/2 months after he arrived.

He needs to help Miami get back to that level.
