Monty Williams, the coach of the Phoenix Suns, tried to keep history out of his team's mind.

Williams allowed himself time to reflect after the team's 18th win in a row, a 114-103 victory over the Pistons.

It is cool to be a part of that. The way we've won, guys out of the rotation, and the way we stick together makes it really cool.

It's difficult to win in this league. We're not satisfied. It takes the right things to stretch it out. We've taken it one game at a time.

The previous franchise record of 17 was set by the 2006 Suns, who went on to finish 61-21. The streak is the longest of any NBA team in the last five seasons. The Los Angeles Lakers won 33 straight games in 1971 to win the longest streak in NBA history.

Suns players tried to downplay how much they thought about the streak.

"It feels good but at the same time, I don't know, I guess it feels good but we got another tomorrow," he said. We have to keep going. It's a one point game today. That's how I feel.

Chris Paul, who finished with 12 points and 12 assists, said it was a nice piece of history for the team, but the focus remains on the bigger picture.

"For us, it's always about the feeling of making sure we're playing the right way," Paul said. We have a standard. We feel like we could have played better if we had won.

Booker missed the game with a injury. Without him, Phoenix focused on a balanced scoring effort with seven players in double figures. Payne and Johnson both scored 19 points off the bench.

"We have guys that can score the ball across all the lineups," Johnson said. Every night, the book puts a lot of points up on the board. We're a team that we're going to find other ways to get things done and that's what we did tonight.

Johnson is looking forward to the Warriors playing the Phoenix Suns again on Friday.

A team that we just beat at home, we get to play in a division game. It's a lot on the line. This is what the NBA is all about. Going into environments with implications. It's a December game, but it means a lot. It means a lot to us. It's going to be fun.
