Blaze It! Scientists Finally Discovered What Makes Weed Dank

Researchers have discovered that the distinctive aroma of cannabis is similar to eggs, skunk spray, and hops.

According to Science News, a new study conducted by cannabis industry researchers found that weed contains sulfur for the first time.

The smelliest strains of weed contain sulfur, thanks to the use of instruments that detect sulfur chemiluminescence, gas chromatography, and mass spectroscopy.

The researchers found that the most common sulfur molecule found in loud bud is prenylthiol, the same compound that gives "skunked" beer its notorious scent and taste. Some of the sulfuric molecule found in the Cannabis sativa are similar to garlic, according to the report.

It is not clear why nobody thought to look for sulfur in cannabis before, but the relatively small amount found by Abstrax may have to do with it. Iain Oswald told Science News that sulfur can be in very low concentrations on the flower, but still make a huge impact on the smell.

According to Science News, a smell psychologist who also works with cannabis smells at the Colorado startup Headspace Sensory said that this research could help mask the smell of weed or amplify it, depending on the wants and needs.

Gilbert told Science News that the spectrum of cannabis odor is amazing. It beats the pants off of wine.

More canna-science, such as Gene Sequencing, could help you get the kind of weed you pay for.
