In his memoir, Kal Penn opens up about his sexuality, time at the White House and growing up in India as a child of Indian immigrants.
People magazine's 44-year-old Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle and Designated Survivor actor revealed that he has been with Josh for 11 years and is engaged. Penn stated that he wanted to balance the truthfulness and openness of his book, You Cant Be Serious. He also wants to protect his privacy.
Penn explained to People that Penn was constructing the narrative of the book, about how to respect their true selves, and that this story includes: my life in Hollywood and DC, my love life with Josh, and how we met. It also includes my family's upbringing. That was what I valued most. My story should be true to me and tell it in a way that allows you to get to know me.
The book will be available Tuesday.
People reports that Josh arrived at Penn's apartment with an 18-pack Coors Light, and Penn turned on NASCAR while they were on their first date. Penn told People that Penn was curious if they would get along. However, within a few months, Penn and Josh were still watching NASCAR every Sunday.
