Violence and pornography
China has banned all children's cartoons and television shows that mention violence, vulgarity or pornography. CNN reports that this is an extension of an already extensive crackdown on the entertainment industry.
The announcement was made by the National Radio and Television Administration late Friday night. CNN translated the statement and stated that TV stations must resist plotting errors and broadcast only high-quality cartoons with healthy content.
Cancelled
Ultraman Tiga, a popular Japanese series, was taken off streaming services late last week because the new rules have been applied. Global Times, a state-run newspaper, suggested that it was taken down due to violent criminal elements.
Chinese social media platforms were viewed over 84 million times by fans, causing dismay amongst the users. CNN reported that a hashtag related to this was viewed more than 84 millions times.

According to South China Morning Post, 21 TV dramas and cartoons, including My Little Pony and Peppa Pig, were flagged by authorities in April. Parents complained that they featured inappropriate behavior.
Unhealthy Content
China is undergoing a greater cultural crackdown than ever before. This news comes as Chinese regulators tightened regulations regarding what it considered unhealthy content in television shows earlier this month. Efeminate aesthetics were also banned by authorities, who promised to promote heteronormative images and masculinity through criticism of male celebrities who use makeup.
This alarming trend is aimed at social control, and China's youth are the ones suffering.
