Unvaccinated Americans to face stricter entry rules under new US travel policy

When the new travel policy goes into effect in November, Americans who have not been vaccinated will face stricter entry requirements when they arrive to the United States from another country.
The White House announced Monday that the US would introduce a new international travel policy in November. All adult foreign visitors can travel to the US under this policy, provided they have proof of vaccination against COVID-19. They also need to present a negative COVID-19 test result no later than three days prior to boarding their flight to the USA.

This applies to permanent residents and returning US citizens. Unvaccinated residents and citizens will face stricter border protocols. Lonely Planet was informed by a spokesperson for the Department of State that passengers would need to show proof of a negative test within one day of their flight. They also have to prove that they purchased a viral COVID-19 testing to be performed after arriving.

The spokesperson stated that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), will continue to strongly discourage air travel by US citizens, permanent residents, and those who have not been fully vaccinated.

The new travel policy will prohibit adult foreigners who have not been vaccinated from traveling to the US. This applies regardless of their origin. However, it won't affect children who aren't eligible for the vaccine.

Jen Psaki, White House press secretary, stated Monday that the CDC would issue a contact tracing program that requires airlines to gather "comprehensive information" from all inbound passengers. This will allow them to follow up on anyone who was exposed to COVID-19 while onboard their flights. The government has not yet confirmed if the system will be implemented. The CDC must still issue a formal order containing details about the new travel policy as well as the date it will start.
