On Thursday, a satirical meme mocking Texas' new abortion law was still in trend on social media.
Paul Leigh posted the meme on Twitter on Sept. 2 and showed an altered image taken from The Handmaids Tale. It purported to show that Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders uniforms had been changed.
The satirical uniforms changed the large, red-covered red robes and large, white bonnets to Cowboys colors.
Based on Margaret Atwood's 1985 novel, Hulu is based upon a dystopian nightmare where a totalitarian society forces fertile women into child-bearing slave labor.
Leighs meme was created in response to the Texas law which went into effect September 1. Senate Bill 8 makes it illegal to have an abortion within six weeks in Texas. This meme has been liked over 1,500 times on Twitter. The image has been retweeted by celebrities such as Bette Midler and Bradley Whitford.
The bill prohibits abortions once an ultrasound can detect a fetal pulse. This can occur as early as six weeks after the baby is born, according to The Texas Tribune. Some doctors and legal experts believe the term "heartbeat" is misleading as embryos do not have a heart at this stage.
This law covers cases in which the woman was raped or incestuated. On Thursday, the U.S. Justice Department sued Texas, arguing that the law was unconstitutional.
Opponents argue that the law's six-week timeline, which begins the day after a woman's last period, can be misleading as many women don't realize they are pregnant for six weeks.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., took Gov. During a CNN interview Tuesday night, Greg Abbott was called to task.

Ocasio Cortez explained to Anderson Cooper that six weeks pregnant is two weeks late for your period. Two weeks late can occur if you are stressed, your diet changes, or for no reason at all. You don't have six weeks.
The meme gained such traction on social media, that conspiracy-debunking website snopes.com published an article showing the original image Leigh had altered.
