Google's Wear OS app for YouTube Music has been released. This could be a welcome development for those who have been waiting to access their music via Google's streaming service since August 2020, when Google Play Music was shut down on Wear OS. However, the app has a few limitations.
According to Google, the biggest problem is that only one of Samsung's new watches with Wear OS 3 can use the new app. The new app won't be available on those watches until August 27, so even if the app isn't available right away, it won't work unless you own a Galaxy Watch 4 Classic or Galaxy Watch 4 Classic.
It sounds like the app has some limitations, even if your watch is compatible.
YouTube Premium subscribers will be able to download music directly to their watches using the YouTube Music OS. This means that you can listen to your favorite tunes even if you don't have an internet connection. Based on 9to5Googles hands on experience with the app, there may be some annoying caveats that you need to remember when using the Wear OS YouTube music app.
9to5Google claims that there is no way to stream music. You can download music at the moment. 9to5Google also reports that you cannot download songs from the app if your watch is charging.
It's still nice to have a YouTube Music Wear OS application, even if it is limited. Google has not shared information about when the app will be available on other WearOS devices.
