My Facebook feed has become a jumble of MLM peddlers and COVID misinformation over the years. I also rage about COVID misinformation and Minions memes. It's embarrassingly true that I still check it occasionally and know that I'm not the only one.
To keep with the secretive Facebook use, I don’t want anyone to see that green bubble right next to my icon and know that I’m actually checking it. Here's how you can disable the "Active Now" green dot on Facebook.
On your desktop, click the Messenger icon at the top right of your homepage.

Next, click the ellipsis (...) button at the top.

Chat Settings will be displayed. Click on Turn Off Active Status.

You have the option to either turn off the green bubble and blacklist/whitelist specific names. When you are done, click "OK".

This is slightly different on mobile. The Messenger app will open when you tap Messenger in the Facebook app. Click on your profile picture to the top left. Click Active Status to toggle whether or not you wish to display that you are active.
