Schumer outlines $107 billion plan for legal status for immigrants as part of massive Democratic spending bill

Senator Majority Leader Chuck Schumer presented plans for Democrats to pass legislation that would give legal status to certain illegal immigrants residing in the United States, and to improve border security.Schumer included Monday's measures in Senate Democrats' fiscal-year 2022 budget proposal. If passed, it would create a legislative process which would allow Democrats to pass legislation in the Senate with only a simple majority. Republicans will not be able to block it through the filibuster. The plan would allow lawful permanent status for an unspecified number illegal immigrants, as well as "smart" and effective border security measures. The budget proposal includes $37 billion for the purchase of all federal vehicles to be converted to electric, which would include tens of thousands more trucks and SUVs that federal law enforcement officers use at the border.REPUBLICANS ARE PERMITTED TO FILE ARTICLES IN IMPEACHMENT AGAINST BIDEN BORDER CHIEF MAYORKASUnspecified programs for border management are included in the budget. Democrats are opposed to physical barriers at the southern border where illegal migrants have crossed more recently than in any other time in the last 21 years.Schumer stated in a statement that "We are careful coordinating our work regarding the budget with our House counterparts."House Democrats, who control lower chamber, must reach an agreement or compromise with Senate Democrats in order to move forward. To pass the budget, it will require a majority of 100 senators. Vice President Kamala Harir could be the tiebreaking vote.CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION FROM THE WASHINGTON XAMINERSchumer's Monday proposal does not break down details of the projects.Washington Examiner VideosTags: News, Budget, Chuck Schumer, Senate, House of Representatives, Immigration, Border SecurityAnna Giaritelli is the original authorOriginal Location: Schumer presents a $107 billion plan to legalize immigrants as part of a massive Democratic spending bill
