Major League Baseball has handed out discipline to members of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros following Tuesday's bench-clearing incident.
Per MLB's official statement, Dodgers reliever Joe Kelly received an eight-game suspension, manager Dave Roberts has been suspended for one game, and Astros manager Dusty Baker was fined for his role in the situation.
MLB noted that Kelly is appealing his suspension, making him eligible to pitch for the time being. Roberts will serve his suspension during Wednesday's game.
Per The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, Kelly's eight-game suspension in a 60-game season would be the equivalent of a 22-game suspension in a normal season.
Both benches cleared after the sixth inning of the Dodgers' 5-2 victory on Tuesday night after Kelly threw a fastball over Alex Bregman's head and threw two pitches inside against Carlos Correa before striking him out.
Baker told reporters after the game that Kelly told Correa, "Nice swing, b---h" as he was walking back to the Dodgers dugout.
The two-game series is the Dodgers' first trip back to Minute Maid Park since the 2017 World Series, which the Astros won in seven games.
MLB announced in January that the Astros received a fine of $5 million and forfeited their first- and second-round draft picks in 2020 and 2021 after an investigation revealed the organization cheated during the 2017 season and part of the 2018 season.
Manager AJ Hinch and general manager Jeff Luhnow, both of whom received one-year suspensions from MLB, were fired by the Astros for their role the scandal.
The Dodgers and Astros will wrap up their series Wednesday night.
