Eagles Trade Rumors: Darius Slay Talks Progressing Before Potential Deal

Detroit Lions cornerback Darius Slay could soon find himself in Philadelphia with a three-year contract extension in hand.

Per ESPN's there are ongoing discussions right now regarding the framework" of a three-year extension, which would be part of a move sending Slay from Detroit to the Josina Anderson, " Eagles.

The news comes after the Lions reportedly agreed to a two-year deal with ex- Atlanta Falcons cornerback Desmond Trufant, per ESPN's Jordan Schultz.

ESPN's Adam Schefter added the move would enable the Lions to continue looking for a team to acquire Slay as they revamp their defense.

Slay is seemingly open to a potential deal.

The 29-year-old has been a Lion for all seven years of his career after Detroit took him in the second round of the 2013 NFL draft.

The former Mississippi State Bulldog is a three-time Pro Bowler and a member of the 2017 All-Pro team. He has 19 career interceptions, including a league-leading eight in 2017.

Slay signed a four-year, $48 million contract extension before the 2017 season, per Over the Cap, making him a free agent after the 2020 campaign.

The 6'0", 190-pound corner has expressed disappointment in numerous decisions the Lions front office has made. Of note, he said he was feeling "like s--t" after the team traded defensive backfield mate and safety Quandre Diggs to the Seattle Seahawks, per Justin Rogersof the Detroit Free Press.

Slay also expressed displeasure with his contract in the 2019 preseason, per Dave Birkettof the Detroit Free Press, noting that he felt as though he was underpaid.

He's been one of the best corners in the game recently, as partially evidenced by an NFL-high 26 pass breakups in 2017 and a 51.3 percent completion rate allowed on targets in his vicinity over the past two years, per Pro Football Reference.

Now he may join an Eagles secondary that will see new faces after the release of safety Malcolm Jenkins.

Philadelphia has been hit hard with injuries in the defensive backfield over the past few years, with a rotating group seemingly taking part every week. But Slay can conceivably shut down his area of the field and give the Eagles some much-needed stability in the secondary.
