We found our way to a virtual laser tag arena after playing around in a snowy Christmas themed setting. It wasn't strong like the air hockey table. The guns felt like a Time Crisis cabinet when moving around the arena. I was playing laser tag with people in different parts of the country. That's great.
It shows the problem with Meta's vision of virtual reality. The physics toys are pretty cool. They don't have any sort of depth. They are tech demos.
It could've taken the world by storm if it had come out in 2006 It was shown that it was possible to use handheld controllers to play games. That sounds amazing. The Wii is described. There is a virtual social world where you can interact with other people. The Wii came out a month before the South Park parody was done.
It's not a trivial task to put all that in a virtual reality headset. The environment in the arcade was appropriate. A physics toy can't shake up the video game industry because it doesn't have enough depth.
That doesn't include the physically challenging aspects of our party.
The party is over and my battery is dead.
The issue with the headset is still not solved. Virtual reality is taxing on the body in a way that other devices aren't. I moved my coffee table in order to make my living room bigger. I put on my comfiest shoes because standing in one place for too long can cause strain and I made sure my headset's battery was charged.
I was prepared for it to go on for a while. The long haul was not very lengthy. We decided to call it after about fifteen minutes. Most of our headsets had low battery warnings on them. The Quest 2 is rated for 2 to 3 hours of battery life, but this depends on what you're doing with it, and the physics games and voice chat probably weren't helping.
It was tiring and awkward at the same time. It's on my end. I was dropped out of the game and the voice chat was cut off when I pushed up my headset after drinking cider. My face was getting sore from the pressure of the headset, despite the fact that I had purchased the Elite Strap to make it sit better on my head. Since I bought it, the price has gone up.
I had fun. I'm a fan of virtual reality on its own. While Beat Saber is not my favorite in the series, the Room's virtual reality game is excellent.
There is a lack of depth in Meta's offerings. We had fun playing with the physics toys, but we didn't spend a lot of time with them. Throwing basketballs, whacking moles, and playing air hockey were only for a short time. Everyone was done with laser tag after one game, and so were their batteries.
If we'd simply had a Jackbox party, how long would we have played? If I'd used the technology everyone has, I could have included more of my friends and loved ones.
As I removed my headset and kicked off my shoes, I wondered if we should be patient and let Meta figure out how to lead the way in this brave new world of social virtual-game worlds. I sat at my desk and played the game with my friends.
