A nuclear waste official has been fired by the Department of Energy after being charged with stealing luggage from airports.

Brinton is no longer employed by the DOE. The Department of Energy can't comment on personnel matters, according to a spokeswoman. The agency has been asked to comment.

Brinton's appointment as deputy assistant secretary for spent fuel and waste disposition at the DOE's Office of Nuclear Energy was hailed as a historic accomplishment for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transexual community. He was placed on leave after being accused of stealing luggage. Brinton is accused of grabbing a woman's Vera Bradley suitcase, worth $2,325, from her luggage claim.

On Friday, an arrest warrant was issued for the gender-fluid individual on charges that he stole property worth between $1,200 and $5,000 from the airport, raising questions about his claim that the first theft was the result of a mix up. According to police, Brinton was caught on camera running off with a suitcase full of jewelry, clothing, and makeup.

Brinton's biography on the DOE's leadership page appeared to have been removed as of Monday. Townhall reported that the role he previously filled was avacant.

A group of House Republicans demanded Brinton's removal from the DOE last week, saying he was putting the position and policy work at risk.

The actions of Brinton, along with your Department's lack of transparency when dealing with this matter, reflect poorly on the Department of Energy. A person with a felony should not be allowed to influence America's policies.

Brinton was the former Head of Advocacy and Government Affairs at theTrevor Project, an advocacy organization that hosts an online chat room that facilitates communication between lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer people.
