The newest version of the company's Mac operating system is called macOS Ventura.

We've put together a video showing 25 of the new features and lesser-known changes that we think are worth a look if you're going to upgrade. It's important to note that macOS 13 is compatible with older Macs.

1. Undo Send Email

You can unsend an email if you regret sending it immediately after pressing Send.

If you don't see the Sidebar in the menu bar, you can use the Undo Send option at the bottom of the sidebar. The interval can be set to 20 or 30 seconds if you want to send the message immediately.

2. Use Nearby iPhone as Microphone Input

Ventura's new Continuity Camera feature allows you to use your phone's camera as a webcam for your Mac, but it also allows you to use your nearby phone as a microphone input.

Click the Input tab under "Output & Input" if you want to see and select the name of your phone.

3. Mail Follow-up

Mail will surface the email in your inbox and ask if you want to follow it up, if you haven't gotten a reply in a while.

If you don't need a response to the email in question, you can ignore it or choose to ignore it.

Mail can remind you if you reply to an email at a later time.

Click on the message in your inbox to select remind me. You can see options like Remind Me in 1 hour, remind me tonight, remind me tomorrow, and remind me later. The clock and calendar will be brought up if you choose the last option. Click Schedule if you haven't done that yet.

5. Scheduled Send Email

You can schedule your mail to be sent at a future time and date if you want.

The send icon can be seen next to the chevron. Select Send Now, Send Tonight, or Send Later from the drop down. You can set a specific time and date by clicking the last option. Click Schedule if you haven't done that yet.

6. Spotlight Quick Look

You can preview recognized files in Ventura just like you can in Finder.

The preview window can be opened by pressing the Space bar. Full copy selection support is included in text-based documents.

7. Spotlight Quick Actions

Quick actions from the search field are now possible without opening the corresponding app.

The clock app will show a dialog box asking "For how long?" if you type "start a timer." Other quick actions include set an alarm, turn on a focus, run a shortcut, and find a song with the help of a database.

8. Pinned Tabs in Tab Groups

One disadvantage of using Tab Groups was that you couldn't pin tabs to the left side of the bar. You can drag the tab of a website to the leftmost side of the tab bar in Ventura.

If you like to visit a lot of websites during the day, pinned tabs are a good idea.

9. Wi-Fi Passwords in Network Settings

In previous versions of macOS, if you couldn't remember the password you used to connect to it, you had to find it in Keychain Access.

The Copy Password option has been added by Apple to correct the problem in Ventura.

10. Strong Password Editing

There is now an option to modify a strong password that is suggested by Apple, which allows it to be tailored to site specific requirements.

Password creation requirements that include special characters, don't allow for special characters, need a specific length, or ask for other customizations not met by the strong password requirements can now be changed with the edit option.

Click a suggested password and then choose other options to access the strong password section. You can make changes to the characters that have been suggested. Easy to type or no special characters are available.

You can easily collect and save related tabs in a Tab Group if the websites are being used to help you plan a trip or work on a project. Multiple people can contribute links and work together when you share those tabs in macOS Ventura.

You can share a Tab Group by clicking the ellipsis button next to a Tab Group in the list. You can choose from a Share Sheet menu to share.

12. Edit Sent Messages

There is an option in the Messages app to change sent messages. A message can be edited up to 15 minutes after it is sent. Go to the contextual menu and click on the message you'd like to edit.

Both people need an Apple device with the latest software for the feature to work. The text that people see when they receive an edited iMessage is "Edited to [text]".

The edit history is sent to the recipient along with the edit so the original content is still visible.

13. Mark Messages as Unread

Users of email programs have been able to mark messages as unread. If you don't have time to read or address a message, you can mark it as unread and it will appear as a new message again.

You can return the blue dot to a message if you mark it as new in the Messages app in Ventura and iOS 16.

14. Missing Email Attachment?

When it's too late to include an attachment in an email, most people feel embarrassed and forget about it.

Mail is now smart enough to alert you if you forget to include an attachment, which is a good thing. If mail thinks you've missed recipients, it will alert you.

15. Undo Send Message

It's now possible to unsend an iMessage in Ventura for up to two minutes after it's been sent. You can't unsend a message if it's been more than two minutes since you sent it.

You can use the feature in Messages by right-clicking on the message bubble and selecting 'Undo Send'. If you try to use the undo send feature on a message sent to someone running an earlier version of the software, it won't work and the message won't be sent.

16. Add Stage Manager Icon to Menu Bar

You can enable a menu bar item that will give you quick access to an on/off toggle if you want to be specific in your use of the new Stage Manager app window management feature.

You can find the Stage Manager entry by going to the Control Center and finding it.

17. App Sets in Stage Manager

Individual apps from inactive sets can be brought into the active set that is front and center with Stage Manager.

Either drag app windows from parked sets or shift click them to bring them into the active set.

18. Continuity Camera

In Ventura, Continuity Camera allows you to use your phone as a camera in any app that can use a camera.

It works either wired or wireless, and when you bring it close to your Mac, you'll be able to use it as a camera input. Make sure that both devices have wi-fi enabled and that they are signed in using the same apple id.

19. Continuity Camera Video Effects

Portrait mode, studio light, desk view, and center stage are just a few of the video effects that can be found on Macs.

Click Video Effects to switch between the different modes when Continuity Camera is active.

20. Lock Hidden and Recently Deleted Albums in Photos

In previous versions of macOS, the Hidden album in your photo library can be seen via a menu bar option in the Photos app, while any recently deleted photos are available for anyone to peruse while your Mac is unlocked.

The hidden and recently deleted albums in the Photos app are locked and can only be unlocked with your Touch ID.

Critical security updates that are designed to keep you and your data safe and secure online have been linked to some of Apple's most important point releases.

The new Rapid Security Response feature in Ventura will allow you to get important security updates without having to update the entire operating system. The associated toggle can be controlled in the system settings. Toggling the switch, tap the circled icon.

22. Background Sounds

Background Sounds, which is designed to help you stay focused, stay calm, and minimize distraction, was one of the new accessibility features introduced by Apple. The same background sounds can be accessed in Ventura's System settings.

Balanced, bright, and dark noise are some of the sounds on offer. The sounds can be set to play in the background to mask noise from the environment or other sounds. The Hearing item can be added to Control Center or the menu bar if you download a background sound.

23. Clock App on Mac

The clock app can be found on the Mac. The time is displayed in the dock.

Time zone options, alarm, stopwatch, and timer are accessible through four tabs in the clock app interface.

24. Live Text Selection in Video

Apple's Live Text feature can be used in paused video frames, so you can use functions like copy and paste.

Live Text can be found in Photos, Quick Look, and other applications. Japanese, Korean, and Ukrainian text are now recognized by Apple.

25. Multi-stop Routing in Maps

You can use the Maps app in Ventura to plan a route that has multiple stops. This is the first version of Apple's Maps app that includes support for this feature.

You can add up to 15 locations to stop at en route with Apple Maps, and the app will show you the route to each stop.

26. Photos Duplicate Detection

Apple has added a new Duplicates album as a sidebar item in the Photos app, which will automatically detect any duplicate in your library and put them together for you to inspect. If you have duplicate images on your library, the album won't show up.

There are duplicate listings in chronological order inside the Duplicates album. The button can be used to combine duplicate sets into a single picture. Apple's merging feature will create the best image even if you take two photos that are very similar.

27. Copy and Paste Photo Edits

If you have multiple photos that you want to modify in the same way, you can use the copy and paste tools in the Photos app.

If you want to use the new option, you must first open an image. Select the image you want to paste from the menu bar, then choose the image you want to copy. You can paste edits from the menu bar after choosing image.

28. Pin Lists in Reminders

Pin your favorites to get to them quickly in Reminders. You can see pinned lists under your Today, Scheduled, All, Flagged, and Completed lists.

You can pin a list by right-clicking it in the sidebar and selecting Pin List from the contextual menu.

29. Multiple Watchlists in Stocks

You can use the Stocks app to create multiple custom watchlists.

You can use the criteria of your choice to group symbols. You can add the earnings report date to your calendar by clicking on a button.

If you want to remove the background from an image, you can do it in iOS 16.

The feature works in many browsers. You can copy subject from the contextual menu. You can paste the isolated subject from the clipboard into any app.

31. Weather App

The new dedicated Weather app in Ventura is worth a look because it is the only Weather app in the area.

The Mac app will look similar if you're coming from an iPad. It has all of the features of the app, including animated weather background that changes based on the weather at your location, as well as air quality monitoring, weather maps, and forecasts.

If you pasted a URL into a message it would only show the web address. In Ventura, rich link previews give recipients an idea of the content they can expect to see if they visit the website.

Click the down arrow in the corner of the preview if you don't want to use a rich link.

33. Preview Form Filler

There is a new tool in preview that makes it easier to insert text.

It used to be possible to place the text in the middle of a page, but that was cumbersome, and you had to drag the text to the desired location in order to do it.

34. Time Machine Backup Frequency

Time Machine backups can be enabled in previous versions of macOS, but they can't be changed from the hourly Default.

Manually, Once every hour, Once every day, and Once every week are now included in Ventura's Time Machine options.

35. Favorite Music Artists

You can add artists to a "Favorite Artists" list by navigating to their artist profile and clicking on a new star.

You will get notifications about new releases from that artist, according to Apple. Apple Music had a similar feature where you could follow artists and receive updates about their music and updates about upcoming releases, but the new Favorite Artists feature is focused on improving push notifications and recommendations around your favorite artists.

36. My Sports Section in Apple News

The "My Sports" section of Apple News can be used to aggregate news and developments related to your favorite teams.

It can be found in the Today section. Set it up by clicking get started.

37. Lock Notes With Login Password or Touch ID

If you wanted to access your notes again, you had to create a separate password for them and remember it.

You don't have to remember a password in Ventura. Your Mac's password or Touch ID can now be used to protect them. Click Lock Note and you will be given the option to use a password.

You can use the password for your iCloud account to access locked notes on other devices.

38. FaceTime Handoff

Handoff works with FaceTime in macOS Ventura so that a call can be accepted on the iPhone and then transferred over to the Mac.

When a call is handed off, it will transition to the new device if you have a headset on.

39. AirPods Settings Menu

It was possible to control Spatial Stereo from the Sound menu bar item in the past, but that was not the case anymore.

You can control everything from Ear Detection to charging case sounds if you connect the AirPods.

40. USB-C Accessory Security

Ventura has a new security feature for Apple's Macintosh computers. Users need to approve new accessories before they can communicate with MacOS.

The security configuration can be changed in the system settings. Asking for new accessories is the default configuration. The accessibility switch control has a policy that allows accessory use. For up to three days, approved devices can connect to a locked mac.

41. Complete Smart List in Reminders

In the Reminders app, you can see all of your completed reminders over the previous seven days, previous month, and over the years.

The time of completion and any other details that were previously filled in for each reminder are included in the list.

42. Game Controller Menu in Settings

There is a new game controller menu in the system settings app. It's possible to map a controller's buttons and thumbsticks to a Mac's keyboard with the menu.

Some of the most popular racing wheels, pedals, and shifters for use in racing games on the Mac are now supported in macOS Ventura. The Nintendo Switch's Joy-Cons and Pro Controller are included in the list of additional game controllers supported by macOS Ventura.

43. Lockdown Mode

Lockdown Mode is a new macOS security feature that protects a small group of high-profile users who are at risk of targeted cyberattacks from state-sponsored software.

It is not suitable for the average user. Attachments other than images are not allowed in Messages and calls from people you haven't spoken to before are not allowed in FaceTime. Complex web technologies are blocked in web browsers, shared albums are removed from the Photos app, wired connections are blocked, and configuration profiles cannot be installed. Don't use too much.

44. Safari Tab Group Start Pages

Tab Groups can now include Start Pages with favorites from your bookmarks as well as a background wallpaper.

Click the settings button in the bottom-right corner after opening a new Start Page tab if you want to change it. The box is next to the Favorites. You will be able to add your favorites at the top of the start page. You can add them by clicking the open bookmarks in the sidebar.

45. Turn Off Featured Content in Photos

The Photos app now has a feature that allows you to remove featured content. If you don't like what the feature digs up from your past, you can have it.

Click Photos and select the General tab, then click the "Memories" section to see the box next to the featured content. The sidebar will no longer have the memories option.

46. Multi-Window Support in Stage Manager

Stage Manager would only allow you to view a single window if multiple windows were open.

You can choose to display two or more windows from the one app side by side. If Stage Manager isn't already active, go to system settings and click on the option toggling for Stage Manager if it's not already active. Select All at Once if you want to show windows from an application.

47. Focus Schedules

The Focus feature in macOS Ventura has been improved with an easier setup mechanism and the addition of Focus schedules, which allow a Focus to turn on automatically at a set time or location.

App boundaries can be changed so that only parts of the app can be seen. In Calendar, for example, a focus can be set to only show a work calendar, or inSafari, you can set a certain tab group to be visible.

48. Enhanced Smart Folders in Notes

New filters in macOS Ventura can be used to organize notes in smart folders. Rules are available for a lot of things.

It has been made so that notes are grouped by chronological categories like Today and Yesterday for quick reference.

49. Web Page Image Translation

Select the text with your mouse if you want to translate an image with a language you'd like to change.

You can get a translation from the contextual menu if you choose.

50. Recover Recently Deleted Messages

You can recover deleted messages for up to 30 days after they're deleted.

Click Recover if you want to recover the message conversation from the sidebar.
