The long-term plan when the Lakers acquired Anthony Davis was for him to be the next face of the franchise.

Davis didn't prove himself ready for that task because of his injuries. According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, Davis said that "Lebron has been in his ear about taking over the reins of the team."

All I can do is follow my actions. I am looking forward to this challenge and what's to come. I think we have a good group of men. Putting in the work is what it is now about.

Over the last two years, Davis has missed more games than he has played. He didn't make the All-Star team for the first time in his career, finishing with just 40 games played as the Lakers finished with a dismal 33-49 record.

Davis focused on strengthening his body this summer. To be our best, I have to be on the court and at my best. I'm prepared to do that.

Even though Davis stayed on the floor, he didn't perform as well as he could have. He shot a dismal 18.6 percent from three-point range, looking very different than the one who knocked down 38.3% in the playoffs.

It's kind of expected from a 37 year old with more than 60,000 NBA minutes on his odometer that the Lakers owe a large chunk of their disappointing 2021,-22 season to the absence of King James. Father Time is perfect, no matter how many times he defies logic.

The age of Davis is 29 His body should be at its best this time of year. Davis has never been able to stay healthy for a long time. He has missed at least 14 games in seven of his 10 NBA seasons.

Human bodies don't usually get better after 30. It is possible that Davis never becomes the next great Lakers cornerstone because he will settle in as a star who needs a better star next to him to prop up his team.

The Lakers will once again rely on an old man to do the job. It's anyone's guess where this franchise is headed once James' body breaks down and he can no longer handle the load.
