President Joe Biden declared a major disaster in Florida on Thursday, freeing up federal funding for storm recovery. According to the latest update from the National Hurricane Center, Ian weakened as it traveled through central Florida.

The T.H. Chan School of Public Health found that even weak storms pose a serious flood risk to hospitals along the coast. Almost all of the hospitals in the North Port-Sarasota-Bradenton area are at risk of flooding from a Category 2 storm. The first to evaluate flooding risk to hospitals on the Atlantic and Gulf Coast from Category 1 to 4 storms has been published.
