On the 24th of September, a West Atlantic Sweden-operated Boeing plane overran the runway at Montpellier and came to a stop in the pond.

The Swiftair Boeing plane with registration EC-NLS was flying from Paris CDG to Montpellier, France. The nose gear was in the water after it overran the runway.

The nose of the plane was partially submerged in the water. The three crew members on the cargo flight were uninjured.

The accident happened when a storm hit the airport. It's possible that the accident was caused by intense rain. Four BEA agents are expected at the scene of the incident to conduct a thorough investigation.

Flight operations are suspended until further notice. The plane is stuck in the pond at the end of the runway, waiting for help to get it out. Airport safety personnel and firefighters are clearing the site.

“As a safety measure, pending the intervention of a specialized company to move the device. Montpellier airport is closed for an indefinite period to freight flights and commercial flights.”
