After months of previews and testing, the newest version of Apple's mobile operating system is now available for download. We picked out 16 of our favorites, from major to minor, that can make a real difference to the way you use your phone.
The lock screen has been updated with the arrival ofiOS 16 and you can add your choice of widgets to it, as well as save several different lock screen configurations. It is possible to bring back conversations that have been deleted in the last 30 days through the Messages app, which is similar to the Trash folder on a Mac. Go to the Messages app and tap the Edit button to show recently deleted messages. You can either restore or destroy the message threads from the next screen.
Enhancements to the focus feature include the ability to set filters in certain apps so that you don't have as many distraction to deal with If you want to hide certain email accounts in the Mail app or limit the number of calendars shown in the Calendar app, you can tap Add Filter.
Mail has an undo send feature that is active for up to 30 seconds after sending and you can schedule your emails as well. If you tap and hold on the blue arrow icon in the top right corner, you can choose from one of the suggestions put forward, or you can choose your own schedule.
It drastically limits the attack surface that hackers have to aim at, while also limiting some of the functions of the operating system. You can access it through the settings.
If you are working on a project or doing some research with other people, you can now share groups of tabs with other people through Apple's mobile operating system. tap the share button if you want to choose some contacts. Tab groups can now include pinned tabs and have their own custom startpages.
You can see how much juice you have left with the battery percentage option. If you want to see the percentage level in the battery icon on the status bar, you have to turn on the battery percentage switch. The battery percentage option for the Face ID-equipped iPhone was left out of the first version of the operating system, but is now included in the latest version.
You can now create multi-stop routes in Apple Maps with the installation of the latest version of the app. The new Add Stop button can be seen when you set up some directions. You can change the order of the stops by moving the handles to the right of the screen.
You don't need an Apple Watch to track your activities through the Apple Fitness app, if you don't have one, it will use the motion sensors on your phone to monitor the steps you're talking and the distances you're walking. The calories you're burning can still be calculated, even if you don't have an apple watch.
Safety Check is Apple's new feature for those "in domestic or intimate partner violence situations" and it offers a quick review of the people and the apps connected to your account. We hope you won't have to use this feature, but if you do, you can find it under Privacy & Security in the settings.
One of the best new features in Apple's mobile operating system is available in a number of apps. With a picture open on screen, tap and hold on the main subject, and you will see a faint white glow around the object in question. You can either copy or share the object if you want to send it somewhere else.
The Apple Health app tracks a lot of vital statistics for you, but it can also track your medications, which is a handy way of making sure you have taken what you need to. You can add a medication from the Health app, but you will have to provide details about how often you take it.
For the first time in the native keyboard of the device, you can have gentle vibrates accompanying your every tap, something that a lot of users prefer, so they can be absolutely sure when their inputs are being registered. To enable the feature, open the settings screen on your phone, choose Sounds and Haptics, and then turn on the Haptic switch.
At the time of writing, Apple says it will be out before the end of the year, but a new feature called iCloud shared photo library will be around to offer you an easier, more convenient way of sharing photos and videos with a select group of people. Anyone that you share a library with is able to view and modify photos and videos that you post, as well as editing them.
