Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming said that the next revision of the PS5 could include a drive that can be used to play games. According to the report, there could be a new model of PS5 in September of 2024.
The PS5 comes in two versions, one with a disc drive built in and one that can't read discs, even if you plug ausb drive into it Sony seems to be trying to do away with the digital divide by selling the same console with or without the drive. Hopefully, this means that you will be able to upgrade the console with a disc drive later on, even if you decided to save money by buying the PS5 first. It would be easier to fix your console if it stopped reading discs because the drive will be sold seperately.
The internals of the PS5 have changed a lot since it was launched. A new version of the console was released in 2021, and earlier this year it got a new cooling system and a new board. The console hasn't changed on the outside.
In theory, the next revision of the PS5 could just look like the current PS5 digital edition, except with an extraUSB-C port on the back. The revision will have almost the same hardware as the one on sale today.
It seems like it will be a bit of a wait before this option becomes available, but that is understandable given that Sony is also working on another major hardware launch. The release date and price for the PSVR2 hasn't been announced yet.
