Since he was cast in Unbroken, we knew that he wouldn't be appearing in the show. He said he doesn't have a connection to the show, even behind the camera. He received a script for the pilot but didn't get involved with the series. It was difficult to pass on the project as the show has always been close to my heart. Many of you have been asking me how can you do QL without Sam and Al. We are about to find out.
Sam Beckett was the man who traveled through time and helped people in the original 1990s series. Sam was told at the end of the show that he would be jumping for the rest of his life. Raymond Lee plays Ben Seong, who finds himself with the same ability as Sam after he and his team attempt to uncover the secrets of the doctor's time travel technology.
Even though he isn't involved, Bakula was happy to point out that the original show's concept of living a life in other people's shoes remains potent, and gave his hopes that the new show would find an audience. I'm crossing my fingers that the new cast and crew can recreate the magic of the original Quantum Leap into the hearts and minds of generations past and present.
The show will premiere on NBC on September 19.
