Community chats are coming to Messenger and Facebook Groups. Large Messenger groups can organize chats into categories, including audio and video channels for real-time discussion, admin-only chats for announcements and event chats. Community chats make it easier to keep track of fast moving conversations.

A new way to connect with people who share your interests is being built by Facebook. More than one billion people use Messenger to communicate with friends, and soon you will be able to start Community chats from Messenger.

Similar to a Facebook group, these chats are intended to span beyond your real life friend group, if you are a woman who loves to catch some waves. The product will have moderation tools that will allow admins to block or suspend group members. A feature called admin assist will allow admins to automate moderation. If you operate a G-rated chat and don't want people to use the f-bomb, you can ban users who use that word.

Both Messenger and Facebook Groups can be used to start community chats. The feature will be expanded to groups in the near future.

Some of the features that are being added to the messenger are similar to some of the popular messaging services. The "@everyone" feature was added to Messenger in March of this year. The /silent command doesn't notify the recipient.
