The Photos and Camera apps have a number of new features, including the ability to get rid of duplicate photos.

Everything that's new in the Camera and Photos app is included in this guide. Many of these features can be found in iPadOS 16.

Photos

Locked Hidden and Recently Deleted Albums

Both the "Hidden" and "Recently deleted" albums are locked with Face ID or Touch ID and can't be opened without a password.

The photos that have been deleted or marked as hidden are protected by this. If someone has access to your unlocked phone, they won't be able to open the albums.

The lock on these albums is a system level lock that cannot be changed. The Hidden album can still be hidden.

Duplicates Detection

Any duplicate images that you have in your Photos app will be detected by your phone. You can save space by merging duplicate photos in a "Duplicates" album under the Utilities in Photos section.

If you have duplicate photos in your library, the merging feature will show up in the duplicate album. The best possible image will be created by keeping the highest detail and most data.

The Photos app will combine the best qualities from both photos into a single image if you have more than one copy of a photo.

duplicate images may show up over time and may not be available right when the update is installed if you update to the newest version of the software.

If you have multiple photos that you want to modify in the same way, or if you have made changes to one photo that you want to duplicate in another photo, you can use the new copy and paste edits tools in the app.

The option can be used if you make edits to an image and then tap on the three dots icon in the upper right corner. You can copy everything that was done to the image. If you want to get the exact same adjustments, open another photo and tap on the three dot icon again.

Undo and Redo Edits

The feature of simple undo and redo buttons is missing in previous versions of the mobile operating system. If you want to remove edits that you've made to photos one by one, you can use the undo and redo buttons.

Once you've made an edit to a photo using the built-in editing tools in the Photos app, the undo and redo buttons will show up. It's quicker to go back and correct a mistake if you have a chance to redo every change.

If you wanted to change one of the edited parameters back to where you started, you'd have to do it manually in the past.

People Album Sorting

Apple added an option to sort the People album by name in the latest version of its mobile operating system. You can change the sorting from "Custom Order" to "Name" by opening the People album. The people in the album are rearranged into alphabetical order by opting for name.

The standard iCloud Photo Library can be shared with up to five other people, but the new iCloud Shared Photo Library can only be shared with one person at a time.

We've created a guide that tells you everything you need to know about setting up the feature and using it with family and friends.

Lift subject from the background is one of the most fun additions to the Photos app as it's a little bit like a mini version of a photo editor. It can be used to remove the subject from a picture.

If you want to use it in the Photos app, open up an image and press on the main subject until it lights up. You can either drag it out or copy it to the clipboard. It can be pasted into another photo or sent as a sticker.

Featured Content Toggle

It is possible to prevent featured photos and memories from showing up in For You, Photos Search, and Widgets with the addition of a feature in the latest version of the operating system.

In the Photos section of the app, you can find the toggle.

Camera

Foreground Blur in Portrait Photos

Portrait mode allows you to blur objects in the foreground of an image to get a more realistic looking depth of field effect. The feature is limited to certain models of the phone.

Translate Camera

Real-time translation of signs, menus, packaging, and more can now be done using the Camera app in the Apple device.

You can point the camera at the text you want to translate. To translate detected text, tap on the translate option and then tap on the text selection button.

You can zoom in for a closer look if you pause the view. It's similar to the Translate camera feature that the Translate app has long offered, and it's convenient for when you don't want to take a photo.

Improved Quality for Cinematic Mode

The Cinematic mode video recording feature on the 13 model is more accurate in the 16 model. It has a better effect on hair and glasses.
