Joey Votto is a first baseman for the Cincinnati Reds and he is very interested in the Field of Dreams game.
He posted a thread on the social networking site detailing his love for the movie as he prepared to watch it. It was a favorite of Votto's as a child, and a particular scene from the movie made sense to him.
Kevin Costner's character in the movie called out to his father, John, for a game of catch after he built a baseball diamond in the middle of a cornfield. It is a moment that tugs at the heartstrings of both baseball fans and movie watchers.
The scene is important to Votto because he used to play catch with his dad. Votto realized how important those moments were when he was 30 years old.
My father and I used to play catch. The most important thing we did was it. Votto said it strengthened their bond.
Getting the opportunity to play a game at the mythical field that sowed the seeds of hope for a Major League Baseball career is a significant moment for me. Couple that with the father/son connection, and this game is an exceptional moment in my life.

Joseph Votto passed away in August of 2008. Votto went on the disabled list for stress related issues. After his father's death, he experienced anxiety attacks. He was back on the team in June of 2009.
Votto understands the magnitude of this event for him personally and professionally.
The chance to play a game at the mythical field that gave me hope for a Major League Baseball career is a significant moment for me. This game is an exceptional moment in my life because of the father/son connection and the fact that I have a son.
The second iteration of MLB's Field of Dreams will be held on Thursday. The movie was filmed in the area. The Reds won the World Series in 1919 and the Cubs won the National League Championship in 1929.
Tim Anderson hit a walk-off home run in the ninth to give Chicago a 9-8 victory over the Yankees in the inaugural event.
