If you don't want to pay or download anything to make a timeline graphic for a work or school presentation, there is a way to do it in a way that's free.

Saving a plain version of your timeline can save you a lot of time if you think you need it again.

If you're worried about having level lines, don't worry, the "Drawing" tool on Google Docs provides a lot of support in that respect.

You need to know everything you need to know to make your timelines on the internet.

How to make a timeline on Google Docs using the 'Drawing' tool

This is the first thing. On your computer, open a new doc.

There are two Click on "File" at the top of the screen to get to the page setup.

There are three. The page should be changed to "Landscape."

There are four. Click "+ New" if a new window pops up over your doc. If your line is not centered along the y- axis, you can always drag it up or down.

There are five. The down carrot is next to the "Line" button in the top of the pop-up.

There are six. If the left side axis doesn't show more than one line, you can use the grayed out grid background to make sure it's straight.

There are seven. If you click on the red arrow, it will show the opposite direction as the one on your drawing canvas. If you pick the other end, it will add the arrow to the one on the other end.

There are eight. If you want to make the line bigger, you can use the "line weight" tool, which looks like three lines of different thicknesses.

There are nine. Click the "Text box" tool and drag a box above or below the line to begin creating timelines. The text box can be dragged left or right.

There are ten. If you want to keep your entries uniform, you need to copy the first text box with keyboard shortcuts.

There is a new date for the 11th. Use the guidelines in the ruler section to make sure the line ends on the main timelines.

You can make a box at the end of the line by using the text box tool.

13th You can copy and paste by selecting the line and text box. You may want to change the length of the vertical lines so that the text has more space.

The 14th. Click "Save and Close" after you've added your entries to add it to your doc.

Clicking the "Picture" tool will allow you to add photos to your timeline.

If you don't know if everything is centered, you can turn on additional guidelines by going up to "Actions" and then using the vertical and horizontal guide lines.

If you see an issue after you've added your timeline to the doc, don't worry, you can update it by simply clicking on the timeline you've drawn and then hitting "edit."

Quick alternatives for making a timeline

It can take a lot of time to make a timeline in the doc. There are templates and add-ons that can be used to speed up the process. There are a few that you should check out.
