Sharing photos with your friends and family is made easier with the addition of an iCloud shared photo library. If you create a shared library, you can invite any of your friends with an Apple product to look at photos, contribute photos, and edit photos.
All of the features that you need to know about to use the iCloud shared photo library will be covered in this guide.
You can either set up a shared library through the pop-up interface or through the settings section of the photos app.
You can invite people to join you through Messages or through a link.
The images that you want to add to the shared library can be found in your own photo library. Sharing all photos and videos, photos and videos by person or date is one of the options.
You can preview the library content before sharing it.
If you don't have an Apple device or prefer to work on a Mac or iPad, you can create iCloud shared photo libraries on any device.
Just as if it were their own photo library, each person invited to participate in an iCloud shared photo library can add, edit, caption, favorite, and remove photos. Everyone has the same permission, and there are no limits.
The option to get a notification when someone removes images from the shared library can be found in the Photos section of the settings app. If an image is deleted, the person who originally shared the image has the option of moving it to their personal library or storing it in the Recently deleted folder for easy access.
All tags, Metadata, and location information are accessible on the photos in the shared photo library.
Six people can use one library if you share an iCloud Photo Library with up to five other people. The person who creates the iCloud shared photo library will be the one who uses the storage space. You can only participate in one iCloud shared photo library.
When you add your personal photos from your library to the shared library, the images are moved from the personal library to the shared library so that they are not duplicated. If your device is turned on, it will download a copy of all shared photos so you can make a backup on a Mac if you so choose.
If you're at an event with someone who you share a library with, you can opt to share photos from the camera directly to the library, which will make all of your shots instantly available to everyone.
You can swap between automatic uploading to the shared library and your personal library by using the icon in the camera app.
Sharing can be enabled through the Camera app or manually with options available in the settings app.
If you want, you can turn it off in the Photos app.
Sharing from Camera can be turned off with the settings app, or you can opt in to sharing automatically, which will add all your photos to the shared library. When you're with that person, the automatic feature only uploads when you're near them.
The "share when at home" feature always adds photos and videos from the Camera even when other participants are not there.
There isn't an option for uploading every photo that you take to the shared library if you don't want to.
There is a three-dot icon in the upper right of the Photos app that you can use to swap from your main iCloud Photo Library to your shared iCloud Photo Library.
You can see your Personal Library, yourShared Library, or both at the same time.
The person who manages the shared library can choose to have it deleted. Go to Photos and click on the option to remove the shared library.
Every person who contributed to the library will be able to keep the photos that they added or the photos that were in the library when it is deleted.
There are three ways to see photos from the shared library.
Every person who participates in a shared library can have their photos and videos uploaded to the library so that both people can have the same images on their devices.
If there are already shared photos sent by AirDrop, the built-in "Duplicates" feature will detect them and give you an option to remove them. There are duplicate things that can't be removed automatically.
To access the Duplicates album on the Photos app on the iPhone, you have to go to the "Utilities" section.
There is a requirement for the iCloud shared photo library. iCloud shared photo libraries won't be visible or accessible on devices running earlier versions of Apple's software. If you move your photo library to a shared library, it won't work on older devices.
You will see a message that says "To access all your photos, update this Mac to the latest version of macOS" or "To access all your photos, update this iPhone to the latest version of iOS"
