A European participated in a Russian-operated spacewalk for the first time in almost 25 years, as a Russian and an Italian worked together outside of the International Space Station Thursday.

A new robotic arm for the Russian segment of the space station was put in place by the crew of the 67th expedition.

Cristoforetti is the first European woman to perform a spacewalk in a Russian Orlan space suit.

The two were about 50 minutes late to leave the airlock on the Poisk module. Artemyev and Cristoforetti were able to complete all of their goals.

As part of a radio technology experiment, the two had to release 10 small satellites into space. After setting up their tools and removing protective covers, Artemyev threw each CubeSat away.

The first of the satellites was released by the cosmonaut as he reported "I see the Earth and deploy in progress." It goes.

The European Robotic Arm will be used by Artemyev and Cristoforetti on a spacewalk. The airlock was moved to its permanent location on the Nauka Multipurpose laboratory module.

The Canadian-built Canadarm2 robotic arm and the Japanese Kibo arm already support the station's maintenance, operations and research.

The Nauka module was installed by Artemyev and Cristo foretti. Future spacewalks will use the fixture to hold tools.

Artemyev prepared the robotic arm's control panel to be put into a storage or hibernation mode. Future spacewalkers will be able to move and position the arm from outside of the space station with the help of the External Man Machine interface.

The protective cover on one of the two camera light units located on either end of the two end effectors was replaced. The acuity of the camera will be improved by the new cover.

The two crewmates were supposed to extend a Strela boom from the Zarya service module to the Poisk mini- research module in order to conduct future spacewalks.

Russian mission control told the spacewalkers that they were ending early because there was not enough time. The spacesuit life support system constraints caused us to be terminated.

Thursday's spacewalk was the sixth of the year and 251st of support for the International Space Station since 1998.

Artemyev has worked the vacuum of space for 41 hours and 44 minutes. The first European to conduct a Russian spacewalk outside of the International Space Station is also a record holder.

Three astronauts from the European Space Agency wore an Orlan spacesuit at the Mir space station. Europeans have done spacewalks in U.S. space suits.

Cristoforetti is the second woman to conduct a Russian spacewalk. The first international spacewalk in 13 years used Orlan space suits.
