While e-book revenues are down according to data reported by the Association of American Publishers, a new survey conducted by Pew Research Center indicates that e-book readership is steady.

The survey, conducted earlier this year, found that 25% of U.S. adults had read an e-book in the past twelve months, compared to 26% in a survey conducted in early 2018. E-book readership has remained between 25% and 28% since 2014.

Unsurprisingly, however, audiobooks, a category which has seen increasing revenues for quite some time, have grown in popularity. While growth reported between 2018 and 2019 is small-just 2%-2019's figure, 20%, is well above 2016's 14% (no data was reported in 2017).

Respondents also indicated their use of multiple formats: 28% read both physical books and a digital books (a category that includes e-books and audiobooks), while 7% read digital books exclusively. Regrettably, 27% of respondents read no books at all.
