On rare occasions, your problem will be so deep that restarting won't fix it. You might want to do a factory reset in that situation.

A factory reset will wipe all of the apps and data from your phone, and return it to the state it was in when you first took it out of the box.

You probably want to restore your data from a recent backup since a freshly erased iPhone isn't very useful. If you want to back up and restore your phone, here's how.

Why you should backup your iPhone

Data such as settings, photos, videos, messages, and app data can be stored on the cloud.

The backups can be used to restore your phone.

  • It's new. You're switching iPhones, and you need your old data to be on the new phone.
  • It's lost or stolen. Your iPhone is lost or stolen and you need the backup to set up a new phone.
  • It's having technical issues. Your iPhone is acting finicky and you need to reset it to factory settings and then restore it.

How to backup your iPhone on iCloud

If you want to create a backup, you can use the iCloud service on your phone.

This is the first thing. The settings app needs to be opened.

If you keep your phone locked and connected to the internet, it will create backups if you turn on the iCloud backup feature.

There are six. If it's in the last few hours, that may be good enough. Wait for the backup to complete if the backup is not fresh and you are connected to a wi-fi network.

How to backup your iPhone on a computer

If you want to back up your phone to iCloud on a Mac or a PC, you're going to need to use a third party.

This is the first thing. You need to connect your phone to the computer to use it.

If you're using a Mac with macOS Catalina 10.15 or later, you won't be able to find music on it. You can use Finder to back up your phone.

This is the first thing. You can open Finder on your computer.

There's a way to make a full backup of the iPhone on that Mac. If you want to back up all of your data on your phone, you need to tick the Back up all of the data on your phone to this Mac radial button.

How to restore your iPhone to factory settings

This is the first thing. The settings app needs to be opened.

How to restore your iPhone from an iCloud backup

You'll be greeted with the initial welcome screen after a complete reset of your phone. It's time to put it back together.

This is the first thing. You will be asked to set up your password.

Don't forget to make sure your phone is connected to the internet.

There are three. You'll be asked to sign in to the cloud. You can use your Apple ID to sign in.
