Ben Davies: Rangers sign defender from Liverpool on four-year deal

Ben Davies signed for Rangers on a four year deal.

The fee is thought to be around $3m with add-ons of around $1m.

He didn't make a first-team appearance when he joined the Reds.

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst said that he is a strong defender.

Davies, who can also play at left-back, spent eight years at North End before he joined the Reds. He was a pre-contract target for Celtic before he moved to the premier league.

Davies spent a lot of time on loan at Sheffield United.

He told the club's website that he was looking forward to taking the next step in his career.

Scotland defender John Souttar joined Rangers from Hearts at the start of the summer and the deal for Davies comes after the Scottish Cup winners accepted an offer from Ajax for Calvin Bassey.

The transfer was described as a "very positive outcome" by the manager of the club.
