You don't need a phone to use your Echo, but you will need the app to get there.

The first thing you need to do is install the app from the Play Store, because every part of the setup and maintenance process goes through the app. Wait for the power supply to be connected to the port on the bottom of the device before you use it. When you open the app for the first time, you'll be asked to sign in to your Amazon account, and then you'll be able to connect to your Echo.

To get to the speaker from your phone, you have to first connect to your wi-fi network. The process begins with an orange ring around the top of the echo to let you know it's ready to connect

Giving Echo access to your accounts

You need to give your Echo something to do now that it's on your home network. If you're a Prime Music user, it's great if you give Echo access to Amazon music services, but there's a chance you'd like to give it access to other things. You will get access to music services when you open the side menu.

This side menu can be used to grant access to your physical address for work. It will make it so that you can get weather and traffic information, as well as what you want to do. The ability to choose what news sources are used for the flash briefing allows you to keep up with the news.

If you've got smart gadgets that let you control your lights, thermostat, or coffee maker, you'll want to connect them to your Amazon echo.

If you have a Smart Things, you'll need to log in and connect to the hub so that it can access everything on your network. You'll be able to speak and control things using the control app.

If you want to control the lights on your house, you'll need to use the Amazon app. You can control individual bulbs or groups at the same time.

You can speak group names and have the same function as you would with an individual bulb if you set this up.

There are a lot of things you can do that are just plain fun, even if you don't know how to set up your Amazon echo. There is a whole section of the side menu called Skills & Games.

You can install third-party apps on your Echo. Having a random Shakespearean insult voiced at you is one of the silly ones. You can get bus schedules and simple science and math facts from others.

It's updated with new features frequently, and it's worth the time to scroll through Skills. You can get to know your Echo by following a routine. When you want morning or evening routines to be activated, you can set up groups of activities, like light controls and flash briefings, to be triggered.

Once you know how you like your set up, this becomes more useful. There is a way to set up routines on the Amazon echo.

The Things to Try tab in the sliding menu will show you a huge list of things you can ask the speaker. There's always something to try out when Amazon adds new features and seasonal updates.
