More people are going to be able to use the picture-in-picture mode on their mobile device thanks to a new announcement from the search engine giant. There is some confusion in the availability of the feature, but according to a community post on Monday, it should be available soon.
If you live in an area where you can get YouTube Premium, then you should get access to the feature no matter where in the world you live. Picture-in-picture is available in the US for non-paying YouTube users. The feature will only be usable for non-music content, according to the company. If you use the operating system, you have probably had this feature for a long time and it is still the same.

Premium subscribers who have been able to access picture-in- picture mode via a variety of methods may be confused by this news. In June 2021, the company said it would bring picture-in- picture to its free users as well as paying customers. It was an experiment that Premium subscribers could enable. Users wouldn't be able to sign up to use the feature because of the end of the experiment. The company said it would have more information soon.
It has been a bit of a bumpy road to get to this announcement today, but some of us have been using it for a while now. It acknowledges that it has been a slow roll out for a highly requested feature. The company has given itself some wiggle room for this phase to take a while, too, and it says that the feature is slowly rolling out.
If you can't see if you have access to the feature, you can try playing a video and leaving the app to go to another app. The video should show up in a floating window if picture-in-picture is enabled. You can check for the feature by tapping your profile picture in the top right of the YouTube app, going to Settings > General, and then selecting the picture-in-picture option.
