Assembly of segments using acoustic levitation

A structure is assembled.

The Public University of Navarre is part of the UPNA.

Sound waves have been sculpted to levitate components and tiny droplets of quick-setting glue to build complex structures. Practical engineering and medical applications are possible.

LeviPrint is a system that uses a robot arm to create sound waves. The acoustic levitation abilities of the arm allow it to carry components without touching any parts.

By sculpting sound waves, the machine can levitate, rotate and move droplets of glue or resin and small sticks, and by combining these, it can create complex structures. The glue is put on by using a beam of light. Similar to a 3D printer, small droplets of the same substance can be added to parts and cured in the same way.
