These are real pictures taken by NASA's Perseverance rover, and they look like a film set.

Perseverance has been looking for signs of life on Mars since landing on the planet. Jezero crater was created by an impact and has been explored by the rover. The site used to host a river.

The strange scene pictured above was probably formed over millions of years of geological activity related to that river, in a build-up of rocks and silt. The area is a likely candidate for ancient life.

In addition to Perseverance, NASA's Ingenuity helicopter is documenting the landscape of the Jezero region from above.

Perseverance wants to document the Martian landscape and see if it could have hosted life. It has made some important scientific discoveries, such as uncovering the history of Jezero's rocks and water using its ground-penetrating radar and measuring the speed of sound in the Mars atmosphere.
