There are 1.5 billion active Gmail users, which is an asset that can be used by the company. You may have noticed that the interface is filled with buttons for other services.

The left sidebar on the desktop, and the bottom sidebar on the mobile, now have large buttons for chat, space, and meet.

There is a sidebar with four buttons that takes up a lot of space. The mobile version of the game has the chonkbar on the bottom of the screen. I'm tired of seeing it and I don't think I'm alone.

It's possible to replace Gmail with a privacy-first email provider, but not everyone will. If you prefer, you can hide the chonkbar in order to get back to enjoying Gmail.

Send an email to a client.

All of us forgot about email clients. They show you your emails and keep you out of their way. There are a few I like.

  1. On Apple devices, the default Mail app is clean, fast, and even blocks email tracking by default.
  2. On Windows, there's the default Mail app, which is very clean and stays out of your way.
  3. Outlook is really good now, and it's included if you're already paying for Microsoft Office. The mobile version, in particular, is much cleaner than Gmail in many ways, and it's a pretty nice calendar app too.
  4. Thunderbird is still a very good open source email client for all desktop operating systems.
  5. Canary is a clean, fast, secure email client for Windows, Android, and Apple devices. You can optionally use the default Gmail keyboard shortcuts, which is a big deal if you're a longtime Gmail power user.

It's easy to add a Gmail account with all of these applications, so you can try out a few and see what you like best. You can use both of these clients at the same time if that helps.
